Students have developed a stunning 10-meter multitouch-display
We used six Optitrack v120 slim camera's which have a good sensitivity for infrared light. We used 16 cheap infrared emitters (the kind used for security systems) with a total of 1000 LED's.
The touch detection software runs on three old computers each with two camera's connected. One extra computer combines the output from the detection computers and send event data to our main visualization system.
This way we have (even using the old computers) enough processing power to be able to run the detection software at 60Hz and with a latency between 30 ms and 50 ms. It can detect without any problem 100 different touches at any time (more is possible, but it becomes slower)
We used a modified version of Community Core Vision (CCV) 1.4 (nuigroup.com) (modified so it can do two camera's on one computer).
The communication protocol is preferable TUIO (tuio.org) and we did install Multi-touch Vista (multitouchvista.codeplex.com), which translates TUIO events to WM_TOUCH events for windows 7.
The curved screen itself is consist of a 3 mm dark acrylic layer, coated with a diffuser on the front. Illumination is from behind using six full hd projectors.
The cameras and the ir-leds are also located behind the screen.

The new iPod nano with Multi-Touch
There's no home button as there is on the iPhone. Instead, you hold down your finger against the display to return to the Home screen.
Apple also added a clip that lets you wear the Nano on a pocket or lapel, just like on the Shuffle. It also has an FM radio. An 8-GB Nano costs $149. A 16-GB model is $179.

Transparent multi-touch display AUO (video)
Display Taiwan had a few gems in it and this 2.4 inch transparent AMOLED multi-touch screen was one of them! The screen is targetted at GPS and before you say, why would I need a transparent GPS screen, think about having something like this on your windshield. Might need longer arms but the idea is still cool. The display could have had brighter colours but we were told that the screen would not have been as transparent.
For functionality of the touch screen when looking at the pictures up and down actions are supported but in the drawing application anything goes. This 2.4 inch display is a prototype as they are also working on 4" and 7" displays. Putting something like this into your windshield interesting but the multi-touch capabilities seem a bit wasted.

100" Multitouch Table - EM Spectrum Exhibit
With a 100" surface and an 86" viewable area is it among one of the largest contiguous multitouch tables ever developed. The screen has a 16 x 5 ratio aspect and a 2304 x 800 pixel, high-resolution screen.
The exhibit explores the electromagnetic spectrum. The extended aspect ratio mimics the spectrum itself, from radio waves to gamma rays. Visitors can then move images across the table and see how they are imaged in each waveform.
The exhibit displays a variety of celestial and terrestrial images in a variety of wavelengths. For example, NASA images of the sun can be seen in all wavelengths. Common and iconic objects were photographed in a variety of wavelengths. For example, a birthday cake with lit candles, a toy robot, an alarm clock, and even a hand holding an iPhone are seen in visible, infrared, ultraviolet, and x-ray.
The haptic tempered glass and aluminum and steel construction make the table incredibly durable. Blue LED lighting makes the table stand out.
The application was developed using Adobe Flash and GestureWorks, a multitouch framework and SDK for Flash.
This interactive exhibit will be part of the Space Chase Gallery at the Adventure Science Center. This exhibit will be open to the public on November 7th. The table is based on Ideum's commercially available MT-50 Multitouch Table.

Multi-Touch Technology for Windows 7
Windows 7 new features
Multi-touch capabilities are expected to be part of the next Windows operating system when it is released in late 2009 or early 2010.

Microsoft plans to push multi-touch interfaces in a big way with Windows 7. At the Wall Street Journal's All Things Digital conference yesterday evening, Microsoft discussed some of the progress it has made on its next operating system, and it showed the multi-touch functionality in action. Behold:
Windows 7 won't be the first Microsoft product to implement multi-touch features. Nearly a year ago today, Microsoft unveiled its Surface table, a PC with a huge touch screen designed to serve in retail stores, hotels, restaurants, and similar venues. Surface debuted in AT&T wireless stores last month.
According to Chris Flores from the Windows Vista Team Blog, Microsoft wants to see multi-touch functionality on "a wide variety of Windows notebooks, in all-in-one PC's, as well as in external monitors." That vision may come true in 2010, when Microsoft plans to complete work on Windows 7.
